The Poet's Touch
With nose pressed against the window pane
little Mason
marvels at the Ozark woodlands
tossing in a summer rainstorm.
Too soon, soft pines creak and groan.
The toddler points to his swing beneath the fallen oak
and cries soft tears.

When the wind has blown itself away
the two year old beckons.
Father and son stroll side by side to the bend in the road.
There, in a maze of pungent evergreen boughs
rests Mason's little red swing seat
entwined with the trusty hemp rope
...................... waiting.
